Over mij

Mijn naam is Jan van Gemert en ik werk sinds 2007 als MKA-chirurg. Vrij snel na de start van mijn tandheelkundestudie ontwikkelde ik een bijzondere interesse in de orale pathologie en hoofd-halspathologie in het bijzonder. Dat heeft mij doen besluiten om ook geneeskunde te gaan studeren en mij te willen specialiseren in de kaakchirurgie. Het spreekt mij erg aan om patiënten met een aandoening in het hoofd-halsgebied te onderzoeken, informeren, chirurgisch te behandelen en vervolgens (voor langere tijd) te controleren en te begeleiden.

Het hele zorgsysteem rondom patiënten met aandoeningen in het hoofd-halsgebied, met intensieve en nauwe samenwerking met paramedici en specialisten van andere vakgroepen die hierbij betrokken zijn, boeit mij enorm.

Waarom ETZ

Het ETZ is één van de centra waar de behandeling van hoofd-halspathologie in nauwe samenwerking met het Erasmus Medisch Centrum (EMC) Rotterdam uitgevoerd wordt. De combinatie van werken in het ETZ en als algemeen kaakchirurg in het Amphia ziekenhuis Breda is voor mij een mooie mix. Het biedt ook de mogelijkheid om hoofd-hals (oncologische) patiënten met hoogcomplexe, maar laag volume zorg regionaal te kunnen behandelen, wat de zorg voor de veelal oudere patiënten zeker ten goede komt.
